The Federal Government has opened the floor to Nigerians, businesses and other stakeholders to submit ideas that could shape the 2027 Finance Bill, as it seeks reforms that will strengthen the country’s fiscal system and improve the business environment.
The Federal Ministry of Finance made the call in a notice published on its official X handle, inviting businesses, investors, professional bodies, civil society organisations, academics, public institutions and members of the public to submit practical and evidence-based proposals. The ministry said the goal is to develop fiscal laws that can support sustainable economic growth and make Nigeria more productive and competitive.
According to the ministry, submissions will cover areas including taxation and revenue administration, fiscal policy and management, public financial management, debt, financial regulation, transparency and accountability. Stakeholders can also suggest changes relating to tax compliance, taxpayer services, incentives, customs and excise, budgeting, revenue mobilisation and coordination among government revenue agencies.
The government is particularly interested in identifying gaps and challenges in existing laws, reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens and improving the ease of doing business and investment in Nigeria. It also wants proposals that can reduce leakages, prevent regulatory abuse, strengthen institutional coordination and improve transparency, while ensuring that efforts to raise revenue do not unnecessarily restrict economic activity.
Interested contributors have until Friday, September 11, 2026, to submit their proposals through financebill2027@fmf.gov.ng or the online form provided by the ministry. Contributors are encouraged to identify the specific law or provision they want changed and, where possible, provide proposed drafting language, alongside the expected impact of the reform.
