Google is giving students more reasons to turn to AI for their studies with a new set of AI study tools across Google Search and Gemini. The technology giant has introduced interactive visuals, customised quizzes, 3D simulations, study documents and other learning features designed to make difficult subjects easier to understand and more engaging.
The new tools are part of Google’s broader push to position Gemini as a go-to AI assistant for students as competition in the AI-powered education space intensifies. Google is competing with major AI players such as OpenAI, as well as education-focused platforms that are developing their own tools to help students learn, practise and prepare for exams.
On Google Search, students can now create interactive learning experiences around complex subjects. A search for topics such as the pH scale, for example, can generate an interactive visual through AI Overviews. Students can also ask follow-up questions and receive more customised experiences, while a new quiz feature allows them to generate practice questions on subjects ranging from science and mathematics to humanities and foreign languages.
Google is also expanding the role of its Lens tool in learning. In the coming weeks, students will be able to take or upload photos of problems they are working on and receive AI-powered explanations, help identifying mistakes and guidance when they get stuck. Search can also create study documents from uploaded materials such as PDFs, presentations, documents and handwritten notes, turning scattered learning materials into concise study guides.
Meanwhile, Gemini is getting several upgrades aimed at making studying more interactive and convenient. Students can launch multi-step research reports while using Gemini Live and continue the conversation once the research is complete. Gemini can also generate interactive 3D simulations, including models that allow users to rotate and explore subjects such as DNA. Google is additionally introducing a dedicated learning hub where students can create study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes, bringing many of the new Google AI study tools together in one place.
