Lekki Port has taken another major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s international trade network with the arrival of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)’s new weekly feeder service. The maiden call of the service marks the beginning of a strategic shipping partnership that connects Lekki Port with Lomé, Togo, giving Nigerian businesses quicker and more efficient access to major global markets.
According to a statement released by the port’s management, the new arrangement will see import cargo from MSC’s vast international network transshipped through Lomé before being distributed to Apapa Port, Tincan Port, and Lekki Port. In the same way, export cargo from Lekki Port will move through Lomé, where it will connect with MSC’s mainline vessels serving Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean, North America, and South America. The move is expected to simplify logistics and improve the efficiency of international cargo movement.
Speaking on the milestone, Lekki Port Managing Director Wang Qiang said the launch of the weekly feeder service reflects the growing confidence that leading global shipping companies have in the port’s modern infrastructure and operational efficiency. He described the development as another significant achievement in Lekki Port’s ambition to become West Africa’s leading gateway and transshipment hub.
Qiang noted that the partnership with MSC will provide customers with faster, more reliable, and cost-effective access to one of the world’s largest shipping networks. He added that the improved connectivity will open fresh opportunities for Nigerian importers and exporters, enabling businesses to reach international markets more easily while boosting the country’s competitiveness in global trade.
