African Alliance Insurance Plc has confirmed that it has officially submitted its recapitalisation plan to the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen its financial position and meet regulatory requirements. The announcement came after the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) sought clarification following reports that listed several insurers as having satisfied NAICOM’s recapitalisation conditions, drawing fresh attention from investors and market watchers.
According to the company, it remained under a regulatory order until June 16, 2026, when control of the insurer was formally handed back to its shareholders. Following the transition, the board of directors and management quickly engaged with NAICOM to advance discussions on raising additional capital, demonstrating the company’s commitment to returning to full operational stability and long-term growth.
African Alliance revealed that its capital-raising proposal has now been submitted to the insurance regulator and that it is awaiting further directives before implementation can begin. The insurer explained that the next phase of the recapitalisation process depends on regulatory approval, which will determine how and when the proposed funding plan moves forward.
Reaffirming its commitment to regulatory compliance, the company stated that it will continue working closely with NAICOM throughout the recapitalisation exercise. Management emphasized that strengthening the company’s capital base remains a priority, with the goal of enhancing financial resilience, improving stakeholder confidence, and positioning the insurer for sustainable growth in Nigeria’s competitive insurance industry.
The insurer also assured shareholders, the Nigerian Exchange, and the investing public that it will continue to provide timely updates on any major developments in accordance with NGX listing rules and other regulatory obligations. As the insurance sector continues to undergo reforms aimed at boosting stability and investor confidence, market participants will be closely watching NAICOM’s next decision on African Alliance’s recapitalisation plan.
