The Federal Government has taken a major step toward modernizing public service delivery with the launch of the Government Service Portal, a centralized digital platform designed to give Nigerians seamless access to multiple government services through a single secure sign-in. The initiative aims to eliminate the long-standing challenge of navigating different government websites and registration systems, making interactions with public institutions faster, easier, and more convenient for citizens.
Developed by Galaxy Backbone in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the portal was officially unveiled in Abuja as one of the flagship projects under Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0. Government officials described the platform as a transformative digital gateway that aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy, and Nigeria’s broader Digital Public Infrastructure agenda.
Speaking during the unveiling, Permanent Secretary Nadungu Gagare, represented by Director of E-Government Johnson Bareyi, said the portal directly addresses the frustrations Nigerians face due to fragmented government services. According to him, the platform is not just about introducing new technology but about improving governance and enhancing public service delivery through a connected digital ecosystem. Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, also noted that the initiative solves a structural problem that has made government services unnecessarily difficult for many Nigerians.
Beyond improving convenience, the portal is expected to strengthen collaboration among government agencies through integration with the Nigerian Digital Exchange, enabling secure information sharing while reducing duplication of records across institutions. However, experts have also emphasized that the success of the initiative will depend on strong cybersecurity measures. This comes shortly after the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) warned that fragmented cybersecurity systems across government agencies could expose the country to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats as digital services become more interconnected.
Initial feedback from the pilot phase has been highly encouraging. According to Galaxy Backbone, extensive User Acceptance Testing conducted across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones recorded positive results, with over 80% of participants describing the portal as easy to use and accessible. Nearly 90% successfully located government services, while an overwhelming majority indicated they would continue using and recommend the platform. The launch also coincides with the Federal Government’s broader effort to harmonize digital economy regulations, as the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy works with key regulatory agencies to establish a unified governance framework that will support Nigeria’s growing digital transformation.
