NGX stocks to buy in August 2026 amid oil, rate pressures

Share

As August approaches, investors on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) are keeping a close eye on opportunities that could outperform despite persistent economic uncertainties. With global oil prices under pressure from renewed geopolitical tensions and the Central Bank of Nigeria maintaining the Monetary Policy Rate at 26.5%, market analysts believe companies with strong earnings, attractive valuations, and resilient business models are best positioned to deliver value. Among the standout names are Aradel Holdings, Zenith Bank, Access Holdings, Custodian Investment, Dangote Cement, PZ Cussons, and CWG.

The recommendation comes after a volatile period for the Nigerian stock market. Although the NGX All-Share Index has recovered most of the losses suffered during the June correction, performance across sectors has remained mixed. Banking stocks emerged as the market’s biggest winners in July, driven by strong investor confidence and expectations of sustained earnings from high interest rates. In contrast, oil and gas, industrial goods, insurance, and consumer goods sectors have struggled to regain their earlier momentum, creating attractive entry points for investors seeking undervalued stocks with long-term growth potential.

Leading the list is Aradel Holdings, whose recent share price decline has opened what analysts consider an attractive buying opportunity. Despite trading significantly below its yearly high, the energy company continues to deliver exceptional financial performance, with first-quarter 2026 revenue already surpassing its total earnings for 2025. Banking giants Zenith Bank and Access Holdings also remain top picks, thanks to their strong profitability, low price-to-earnings ratios, healthy returns on equity, and optimistic analyst ratings. While Zenith continues to attract investors with its reliable dividend history, Access Holdings offers additional upside as it moves closer to resolving regulatory issues that have delayed dividend payments.

Other companies attracting investor attention include Custodian Investment, Dangote Cement, PZ Cussons, and technology firm CWG. Custodian continues to benefit from impressive revenue and profit growth, supported by higher returns from its investment portfolio. Dangote Cement remains a preferred industrial stock due to its dominant market position, strong cash generation, and consistent dividend payments despite rising production costs. Meanwhile, PZ Cussons has staged a remarkable financial turnaround after returning to profitability, while CWG has maintained rapid revenue and earnings growth, making it one of the most attractive technology stocks for investors seeking long-term value.

Overall, analysts believe August presents opportunities for investors willing to focus on fundamentally strong businesses rather than chasing short-term market rallies. Companies with healthy revenue growth, sustainable profits, reasonable valuations, and clear business catalysts are expected to remain the market’s strongest performers. While economic challenges such as inflation, high borrowing costs, and geopolitical uncertainties continue to pose risks, these carefully selected NGX stocks offer investors a balanced combination of growth potential, resilience, and long-term value, making them some of the most compelling investment options heading into August 2026.
