Nigeria’s refinery and downstream petroleum industry is witnessing a fresh wave of global attention as foreign technical experts and investors increasingly explore opportunities in the country’s oil and gas sector. This growing interest is being driven by ongoing government reforms aimed at strengthening local refining capacity and improving energy security.
Industry stakeholders say recent policy changes are making Nigeria more attractive to international partners. These reforms are designed to encourage private sector participation, expand domestic refining operations, and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products—creating a more open environment for investment and technical cooperation.
Beyond funding, many foreign players are also focusing on knowledge transfer. They are seeking ways to share technical expertise and operational experience with local operators, helping Nigeria maximize its vast oil and gas potential while improving efficiency in refinery operations.
A major sign of this growing international confidence is the participation of globally recognized refinery expert, Hernando Jose Hernandez Castillo, who is expected to feature at the upcoming Industrial and Commercial Expo Abuja 2026. He will serve as a special technical guest speaker during high-level oil and gas sessions bringing together regulators, investors, refinery developers, and engineering firms.
According to organizers, the expo will serve as a strategic platform for discussions around refinery expansion, operational efficiency, investment opportunities, and workforce development. With over three decades of global refinery experience, Hernandez’s involvement reflects rising international trust in Nigeria’s energy transformation agenda.
