Dangote Refinery Imposes ₦500,000 Daily Penalty on Trucks to Ease Congestion

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has rolled out a strict penalty policy targeting trucks that fail to leave its premises promptly after completing loading operations, in a move aimed at improving efficiency and reducing congestion within the facility.

In a directive issued by its Group Commercial Operations on April 14, 2026, the refinery announced that any truck that remains on-site after receiving its waybill and clearance documents will incur a daily fine of ₦500,000. The company confirmed that the policy took immediate effect from the same date.

According to the refinery, the decision follows repeated operational disruptions caused by trucks lingering unnecessarily within the premises. These delays have reportedly restricted access for incoming trucks scheduled for loading, creating bottlenecks in the system and slowing down overall logistics operations.

Management explained that the new penalty will apply strictly to trucks that have completed loading and documentation but fail to exit within the expected timeframe. The goal, it said, is to enforce discipline, speed up turnaround times, and maintain a smoother flow of truck movement across the facility.

The company has also urged depot owners, marketers, and logistics operators to inform drivers and transport companies about the new rule to ensure full compliance. Industry stakeholders note that the move reflects mounting pressure on product evacuation systems, as the refinery ramps up output and adopts tougher measures to prevent operational gridlock.
