Anthropic CEO Warns AI Could Replace Most Entry-Level Jobs Within 5 Years

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has issued a stark warning that artificial intelligence could replace a significant number of entry-level white-collar jobs within the next one to five years. He said roles in sectors such as finance, consulting, and technology are likely to be the most affected as AI systems rapidly improve in capability.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Amodei noted that the speed of AI development is often underestimated by individuals, companies, and policymakers. He explained that many tasks traditionally handled by junior employees—such as summarising documents, brainstorming ideas, and preparing financial reports—are now well within the abilities of advanced AI tools.

He added that while AI brings major benefits, including potential breakthroughs in healthcare, energy, and scientific research, it also poses serious risks to employment. According to him, AI is already evolving from performing at the level of a smart high school student to something closer to a college graduate, and the trajectory suggests even greater capability in the near future.

Amodei warned that the disruption may lead to a broader labour market challenge, especially as entry-level positions begin to shrink. “We may indeed have a serious employment crisis on our hands,” he said, noting that while AI may initially augment human work, replacement could follow quickly in many industries.

Despite these concerns, the Anthropic chief stressed that halting AI development is not realistic, as multiple companies and countries are racing ahead in the field. Instead, he urged governments to focus on managing the transition through reskilling programmes, AI education, and possibly new economic policies such as taxing AI-driven companies to balance the impact of automation on workers.
