Oando Plc has announced that its joint venture with NNPC E&P Limited has officially begun gas delivery to a newly commissioned 60-megawatt independent power project located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The development marks a major step in improving electricity supply in the region, which has long struggled with unstable power.

According to a statement released on April 16, 2026, the JV is responsible for supplying natural gas to the plant under a long-term agreement designed to guarantee consistent operations. The facility is powered through a dedicated supply system delivering about 11.2 million standard cubic feet of gas per day via the Elebele Valve Station, which is connected to a major trunkline ensuring uninterrupted flow.

The 60MW gas-fired power plant, located in Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area, was inaugurated earlier on April 10 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of broader efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure in Nigeria. The project is expected to significantly improve power availability for homes, small businesses, and industries across Yenagoa and surrounding communities.

Oando’s Group Chief Executive, Wale Tinubu, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s energy value chain and expanding access to reliable electricity. He noted that improved power supply will help stimulate economic activity, support businesses, and raise living standards in Bayelsa State.

Beyond gas supply, Oando also provided engineering design support for the connection infrastructure and assisted during commissioning. The project operates as an integrated system combining gas supply, embedded generation, and distribution, positioning Bayelsa as an emerging hub for state-led electricity regulation and investment under the newly established Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency.
