Aliko Dangote has been named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026, reaffirming his status as one of Africa’s most powerful industrial leaders. The announcement, released on April 15, 2026, places him alongside global figures such as U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The annual TIME100 list highlights individuals shaping global affairs across politics, business, science, and culture. This year’s edition also features Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Pope Leo XIV, and top technology executives including Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan.
Dangote, who appears in the “Titans and Innovators” category, makes a return to the list more than a decade after his first inclusion in 2014. He remains the only Nigerian featured in the 2026 edition, recognized for his expanding industrial footprint across cement, fertiliser, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure through the Dangote Group.
According to TIME, his selection reflects a long-term drive to strengthen African industrial capacity using local resources for global competitiveness. His ongoing expansion into energy and large-scale manufacturing was also cited, alongside his role in reducing Africa’s dependence on imports through domestic production systems that support jobs and economic growth.
Beyond business, the publication also highlighted Dangote’s philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which focuses on healthcare, nutrition, education, and disaster relief. The recognition comes as he advances his Vision 2030 strategy, targeting a transformation of his conglomerate into a $100 billion global industrial powerhouse by the end of the decade.
