The Federal Government has announced an improvement in Nigeria’s electricity generation, which increased from 3,951 megawatts to 4,300 megawatts between March 28 and April 10. Officials say the growth reflects ongoing reforms and better coordination within the power sector.

The update was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the Minister of Power on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji. He said the rise in output aligns with earlier assurances by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who had promised improved electricity supply within a two-week period.

According to the statement, the improvement was largely driven by increased gas supply to thermal power plants, which rose from about 605 million standard cubic feet per day to more than 704 million within the period. Tunji added that stronger operational efficiency also played a role, with mechanical availability peaking at over 7,796MW and operational availability rising to about 4,694MW.

He noted that despite minor fluctuations in daily output, the overall trend shows gradual recovery in the power sector. He emphasized that Nigeria’s reliance on gas-fired plants makes stable gas supply a critical factor in sustaining electricity generation and improving national power delivery.

To strengthen progress, the government said it has inaugurated a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee to improve coordination, track supply in real time, and address bottlenecks in gas delivery. Officials also expressed confidence that ongoing reforms will continue to deliver measurable improvements in electricity supply across the country.
