The Federal Government has extended the deadline for applications into the National Digital Economy Research Clusters under Project BRIDGE to April 27, 2026, offering more time for institutions to participate in the N12 billion initiative. Originally scheduled to close on April 13, the extension aims to accommodate growing interest from stakeholders across the country.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced the update via his official X account, noting that the decision followed a strong nationwide response. He encouraged universities, research institutions, and academic leaders to take advantage of the additional time to submit their expressions of interest.
According to the minister, the programme is designed to support research and innovation that will shape Nigeria’s digital future. He emphasized that investing in knowledge-driven solutions is critical for building a resilient economy, especially as the country seeks to strengthen its position in the global digital landscape.
The research clusters form a key part of Project BRIDGE (Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth), a flagship government initiative backed by World Bank financing. The project includes plans to deploy over 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure nationwide, aimed at improving connectivity and accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Eligible institutions are expected to submit proposals aligned with any of the six thematic clusters, including Artificial Intelligence, Digital Skills and Inclusion, and Trust and Online Safety. Each cluster carries an indicative budget of $1.5 million, with submissions required in written form either via email or physical delivery to the Ministry.
