Bluesky is stepping further into the world of AI with the launch of Attie, a standalone app that allows users to design their own social feeds, personalize content, and eventually create their own apps. Unlike Bluesky’s main social network, Attie is built from the ground up as an AI-powered assistant, leveraging Anthropic’s Claude to help users curate content in a way that suits their unique interests.
The app was unveiled at the recent Atmosphere conference by former Bluesky CEO and now Chief Innovation Officer Jay Graber, alongside CTO Paul Frazee. Attendees of the event are the first to beta test Attie, which integrates seamlessly with Bluesky’s AT Protocol. This open protocol allows users’ data and preferences to travel across apps, meaning Attie can immediately understand users’ interests and suggest posts they might enjoy.
Interim CEO Toni Schneider emphasizes that Attie is designed to put control in users’ hands. “You control it, you shape it, without having to write code,” Schneider explained. Users can ask Attie questions, customize feeds with simple natural language commands, and explore a more people-focused approach to AI—one that prioritizes user benefits over platform engagement.
The development of Attie marks a return to product innovation for Jay Graber, who stepped away from daily CEO duties to focus on building. She believes AI should serve people, not platforms, offering individuals the ability to find signal in the noise. Bluesky’s recent $100 million funding round ensures the company has over three years of runway to expand the ecosystem, improve privacy, and explore monetization opportunities, all while reassuring users that no crypto integration is planned.
Looking ahead, Attie’s potential extends beyond personalized feeds. Schneider envisions the AT Protocol ecosystem growing similarly to WordPress, with independent, decentralized applications coexisting and collaborating. For users, this could mean a future where they not only curate their own feeds but also host communities and even design entirely new apps, all while keeping their data under their control.
