Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), in partnership with Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS) and Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), has reinforced the importance of capital markets in fostering inclusive economic growth and creating new opportunities for women across Nigeria’s economy.

At the 2026 Bell Ringing Ceremony held at NGX in Lagos, leaders from both public and private sectors gathered to mark International Women’s Day through the global Ring the Bell for Gender Equality initiative. NGX Group CEO, Temi Popoola, emphasized that increasing women’s participation in capital markets is crucial for building resilient financial systems and driving sustainable economic transformation.

“Capital markets thrive when women take active roles as leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors. Their participation strengthens the financial ecosystem and opens doors for inclusive prosperity,” Popoola said, highlighting NGX Group’s commitment to policies and partnerships that advance women’s economic empowerment.

The event featured remarks from prominent figures including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Imo State First Lady, Chioma Uzodimma. Both called for sustained efforts to expand opportunities for women and girls, praising NGX Group for championing gender equality within Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.

Industry leaders also weighed in on the transformative role of women in finance. Jude Chiemeka, CEO of Nigerian Exchange, and Claude Owona, Regional Industry Manager at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), underscored that equitable access to leadership and finance not only benefits women but strengthens entire economies. Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu and actress Funke Akindele inspired women to pursue ambitions with confidence and discipline, reinforcing the UN Women theme: “Rights, Justice, Action – For All Women and Girls.”
