Nigeria is ramping up its bilateral partnership with the Republic of Sweden, targeting strategic collaboration in energy, infrastructure, and digital innovation. The Nigerian government aims to turn these sectors into investment-ready assets that can drive sustainable economic growth.
Abubakar Bagudu, Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, highlighted the country’s commitment during a courtesy visit by Anna Westerholm, Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria. Bagudu expressed gratitude for Sweden’s willingness to support Nigeria through training programs and targeted development projects.
“We are a federation, and we will offer project preparatory support to our nationals, providing resilient opportunities aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration,” Bagudu said, emphasizing Nigeria’s drive toward private sector-led growth in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, water resources, and digital innovation.
Ambassador Westerholm acknowledged the Ministry’s pivotal role in coordinating national development plans and shared Sweden’s readiness to provide expertise to ensure projects meet international standards. She noted that understanding Nigeria’s vision and developmental priorities is essential to creating actionable, practical support.
Westerholm added, “Our vision for development cooperation should benefit both countries. We plan to develop practical, tailor-made programs that translate sustainable project preparation into bankable investment opportunities.” This commitment signals a new chapter in Nigeria-Sweden relations, with a clear focus on turning strategic sectors into economically viable and impactful projects.
