As 2026 kicks off, Nigerians are increasingly using Google Search to fuel personal growth, entrepreneurship, and healthier lifestyles. Recent search data shows a sharp rise in queries related to self-improvement and new business ventures, highlighting a shift from traditional New Year resolutions to actionable goal-setting.

Entrepreneurship emerged as a dominant trend, reflecting both economic challenges and opportunity-seeking behaviors. “How to start a business” recorded an 80% increase in early January, topping search queries in Nigeria. Other popular searches included starting a blog, launching a podcast, and creating a YouTube channel, signaling growing interest in digital and creator-driven income streams.

Economic pressures, including high inflation, currency fluctuations, and a tightening job market, are driving many Nigerians to explore self-employment and alternative income sources. These trends suggest a pragmatic approach to personal and financial growth as citizens seek more control over their professional lives.

Self-improvement goes beyond careers, with Nigerians also focused on personal development and relationships. Searches for “how to be a better person” increased by 20%, while users looked for tips on being better partners, spouses, and listeners. Health and wellness searches, such as “how to eat healthy” and “how to meditate,” jumped by around 40%, reflecting a holistic approach to well-being.

Skill acquisition is another rising priority. Nigerians are actively seeking ways to enhance English proficiency, memory, communication, and even hobbies like chess, singing, and online gaming. According to Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s West Africa communications manager, these trends act as a “cultural mirror,” showing how millions turn to search engines not just for information, but as a roadmap for building better lives in a fast-changing economy.
