As 2026 begins, Nigerians are turning their attention toward building businesses, enhancing personal skills, and prioritizing wellness, according to the latest Google search trends. Data from the first two weeks of January show a significant shift from routine New Year resolutions to practical plans for self-improvement and economic growth.

Entrepreneurship emerged as the dominant interest, with searches for “how to start a business” soaring by 80%. Digital and content-driven ventures, including blogs, podcasts, and YouTube channels, also gained popularity, reflecting a growing appetite for flexible, creator-led business models among young Nigerians seeking alternative income streams.

Beyond business, personal growth is becoming a central theme. Queries on self-improvement, emotional intelligence, and relationship skills increased by up to 40%, highlighting a desire among Nigerians to enhance not just career prospects, but also interpersonal connections and overall personal fulfillment. Popular searches included ways to be a better partner, listener, and communicator.

Health and well-being also dominated early 2026 searches. Interest in nutrition, healthy diets, and mental wellness grew substantially, with searches for “how to eat healthy” and “how to meditate” rising by around 40%. These patterns suggest a collective awareness of the importance of managing stress and maintaining well-being amid economic pressures and changing work environments.

Google West Africa’s Communications Manager, Taiwo Kola Ogunlade, noted that the search trends reflect Nigerians’ collective ambition and cultural priorities. “Google Search acts as a mirror of what truly matters to Nigerians,” he said, emphasizing that entrepreneurship, self-improvement, and wellness are emerging as defining themes for the year ahead.
