Seplat Energy Plc has commenced gas production from its 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMcfd) Assa North–Ohaji South (ANOH) gas project, marking a major milestone for Nigeria’s domestic gas development. The Nigerian independent energy company, listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the London Stock Exchange, confirmed that the project has achieved first gas following regulatory approval.
Gas supply to the Indorama Petrochemical Plant began after the completion of an 11-kilometre gas export pipeline and approval from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission on January 16, 2026. Four upstream wells that had been on standby since November 2025 were brought online to enable gas flow to the processing facility.
Since first gas, wet gas production has stabilised between 40 and 52 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), while condensate output has reached 2.0 to 2.5 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd). Seplat expects output to rise steadily as the ANOH plant ramps up to its full design capacity of 300 MMcfd. The company is also preparing to supply processed gas to Nigeria LNG on an interruptible offtake basis.
The ANOH gas plant is a joint venture between Seplat Energy and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), featuring two 150 MMscfd gas processing trains, LPG recovery and condensate stabilisation units, a 16-megawatt power plant, and other supporting infrastructure. Designed to operate with zero routine flaring, the facility aligns with Seplat’s onshore End of Routine Flaring programme and Nigeria’s broader energy transition goals.
Commenting on the development, Seplat Energy Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, said the project lifts the company’s onshore gas processing capacity to more than 850 MMscfd and supports its long-term growth targets. He described ANOH as a strategic national asset that will generate material income for Seplat, reduce carbon intensity, expand access to power and clean cooking fuel, and contribute significantly to the company’s 2030 production target of 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
