The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has confirmed that its members now supply approximately 60% of the country’s petroleum products, underscoring its central role in ensuring Nigeria’s energy security. In a statement, the association pledged to maintain this contribution throughout 2026, highlighting its commitment to stable fuel availability amid structural changes in the downstream oil sector.

Speaking virtually, DAPPMAN Chairman Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka described 2025 as a “challenging yet necessary transition year,” driven by policy shifts, regulatory adjustments, and heightened market competition. She emphasized that these changes, though difficult for operators, were critical in shaping a more competitive, market-driven downstream petroleum sector.

The Nigerian downstream industry has been navigating major reforms since the removal of petrol subsidies and the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). These measures have transformed pricing structures, altered supply dynamics, and placed greater responsibility on private marketers like DAPPMAN members to ensure consistent fuel availability without state-backed price support.

Adeyoyin-Adeyinka noted that market turbulence in 2025, partly fueled by the entry of major players such as Dangote Refinery, was to be expected. By the final quarter, however, signs of stability began to emerge, with competition boosting supply and offering consumers more predictable access to fuel—even amid high inflation and rising import costs. She stressed that the increased diversity of supply sources helps reduce the risk of prolonged shortages while highlighting the continued importance of monitoring price volatility.

Looking ahead, DAPPMAN affirmed its ongoing collaboration with government agencies, regulators, and other industry players to ensure a fully functional downstream sector. This includes addressing safety concerns in fuel transportation, from road haulage accidents to pipeline vandalism and depot fires. With these efforts, DAPPMAN positions itself as a key driver of national energy security, working to stabilize Nigeria’s fuel market during a period of significant reform.
