The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has called on Nigerian students to equip themselves for emerging opportunities in the country’s capital market through professional certification and skills development. The Institute emphasized the importance of preparing early for careers in finance amid growing technological innovations and regulatory reforms.
The announcement came during a CIS–Yaba College of Technology career talk held in Lagos, where CIS President and Chairman of the Council, Oluropo Dada, encouraged students to explore pathways into the securities and investment industry. “Now is a defining moment for the Nigerian capital market, especially following recent amendments to the Investments and Securities Act,” Dada said, highlighting the formal recognition of digital assets and cryptocurrency as exchange-traded products.
According to Dada, these regulatory changes have opened new avenues for professionals in areas such as digital asset trading, blockchain-enabled investment products, tokenized securities, and fintech innovation. He particularly encouraged students to consider the Certified Securities and Investment Support Specialist (CSISS) programme, which provides undergraduates with a flexible, fully digital introduction to capital market operations.
Dada also emphasized the broader role of CIS, noting that the Institute is responsible not only for training and certification but also for fostering competence, ethical standards, and global relevance among securities and investment professionals. Speaking on behalf of Yaba College of Technology, Deputy Rector (Academic) Dr. Ismail Badmus commended CIS for equipping students with practical knowledge of finance early in their careers and pledged continued collaboration.
The event also featured industry insights from CardinalStone Partners’ Group Executive Director of Asset Management, Elile Olutimayin, and CIS Registrar and CEO, Ayorinde Adeonipekun, who highlighted career prospects through the CSISS certification. The highlight of the program was the launch of a student investment club, designed to deepen understanding of investment strategies and capital market activities.
