The Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) marked a significant milestone this week, celebrating 25 years of fostering trade and investment between Africa’s two largest economies. The silver jubilee gala, held in Lagos, brought together corporate leaders, diplomats, and government officials under the theme “Building Together,” highlighting the enduring and evolving economic partnership between Nigeria and South Africa.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Mendebem, praised the Chamber as a cornerstone of bilateral economic diplomacy. The Governor emphasized the role of the Lagos State Government in supporting economic growth and facilitating opportunities for South African businesses operating locally, positioning the state as a hub for sustainable investment.

Speaking at the event, NSACC Chair Dr. Ije Jidenma framed the 25th anniversary as both a celebration and a forward-looking strategy. “This milestone reflects the maturity and resilience of the Nigeria-South Africa economic bond,” she said, highlighting the Chamber’s commitment to fostering collaboration and advancing initiatives in key sectors such as manufacturing, fintech, entertainment, and green energy. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of founding members and corporate partners throughout political and economic challenges.

The South African Consul-General in Lagos, Prof. Bobby Moroe, applauded the Chamber for “holding the fort” for a quarter-century, aligning the celebration with 31 years of continuous diplomatic relations. Moroe encouraged leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Agreement to expand opportunities, urging business leaders to capitalize on the Chamber’s framework to drive regional integration and economic growth.

The evening culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations that strengthened Nigeria-South Africa relations. MTN Nigeria was honored for Exceptional Partnership, with high-level networking reinforcing optimism for a prosperous and integrated African economy. As NSACC embarks on the next 25 years, the Chamber’s focus on trust-building, strategic investment, and continental collaboration sets the stage for continued economic transformation.
