US Firm Pulls Nigeria’s Presidential Jet from Sale Amid Government Review

In a surprising development, the US marketing firm handling the sale of Nigeria’s presidential Boeing 737‑700 Business Jet has officially withdrawn the aircraft from its sales platform. The jet, which had been listed online for months, was no longer visible on the company’s website when checked by journalists on Wednesday.

Laurie Barringer, Manager of Market Research at JetHQ, confirmed in an email to The PUNCH that the listing had been removed and advised that any inquiries about the jet’s status should be directed to the Nigerian government. “Thank you for your email. We no longer have the listing on the Boeing. You will need to reach out to the Nigerian Government for information as to what has become of the aircraft,” Barringer wrote.

The decision follows reports that the jet, first listed for sale in July 2025, had yet to attract a buyer nearly four months later. Previous correspondence with JetHQ had indicated the aircraft was still available, and it had undergone partial refurbishment at AMAC’s Basel facility in 2024, including first-class seat upgrades and major inspections, to prepare it for potential buyers.

Valued at around $56 million on the pre-owned market, the Boeing 737 BBJ was originally purchased in 2005 for $43 million under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The current administration had announced its sale as part of cost-cutting measures and a fleet rationalization strategy, aiming to reduce government expenditure amid growing public scrutiny.

As of now, the Nigerian government has not publicly commented on the next steps for the presidential jet. Requests for clarification from the media aide to the National Security Adviser remain unanswered, leaving questions about whether the aircraft will be relisted, retained, or repurposed within the country’s presidential fleet.
