Artificial Intelligence (AI) took center stage at the 38th Annual National Conference and 2024 AGM of the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters of Nigeria (CICSRN) in Lagos. Professionals, scholars, and policymakers gathered to discuss how emerging AI technologies are transforming office management and public administration across the country.
The four-day conference, themed “Effective Applications of AI Technology in Office Management and Administration”, highlighted CICSRN’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s administrative systems. The institute also inaugurated a new Governing Board, signalling a strategic move toward embracing technology-driven management practices in the workplace.
A key moment on the opening day was the swearing-in of the newly elected Governing Board following elections held on 5 June 2025. Mrs Ubege Omonogor was formally installed as President and Chairman of Council, alongside First Vice President Mr Gwonson Joshua and Second Vice President Mrs Taiyek Osarugue. The ceremony, conducted by the institute’s founder Samuel Ozomah, also introduced Mr Goodluck Nnorom as the incoming Registrar/Chief Executive Officer.
In her inaugural address, Mrs Omonogor celebrated the institute’s journey since 1981, promising to uphold its legacy of integrity, professionalism, and excellence. She emphasized that the new Board would sustain the institute’s foundational purpose while embracing AI technologies to ensure relevance in an evolving administrative landscape.
The conference’s technical sessions featured insights from key public service leaders. Permanent Secretary for Establishment and Training, Mrs Busola Abidakun, officially opened the session, while Dr Anthony Okungbowa, Head of Service, Edo State, delivered the keynote lecture titled “Navigating the AI-Driven Regulatory Landscape”. The discussion highlighted how AI can reshape public service administration, emphasizing the need for forward-thinking policies and innovative management strategies.
