Emadeb Exploration and Production Company Limited has successfully recorded its first oil production from the Ibom Field (PPL 236), a development the company describes as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas sector. The achievement reflects years of investment, technical expertise, and collaborative efforts within the country’s energy industry.
Since acquiring the Ibom Field in the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round, Emadeb E&P has invested over $100 million into field development programs. In 2024, the Ibom Field Development Plan (IFDP) received approval from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), paving the way for structured and sustainable commercial production.
The Ibom Field, located about 30 kilometers offshore and initially discovered in 1979, holds an estimated 103 million barrels of oil. Emadeb’s management emphasized that the company’s technical milestones—including drilling the Ibom-03 well in September 2023, integrating a Mobile Producing Offshore Unit (MOPU), and commissioning the Ibom Mooring System—demonstrate the growing capacity of indigenous operators.
Adebowale Olujimi, CEO of Emadeb E&P, said the first oil production highlights the company’s emergence as a fully integrated energy player. “This achievement underscores the pivotal role of indigenous operators in advancing Nigeria’s energy security and economic diversification,” he noted, aligning with the Federal Government’s goal of increasing crude oil production.
The first oil from the Ibom Field marks a promising chapter for Nigeria’s oil industry, showcasing how local expertise and strategic investments can unlock the potential of marginal fields. Emadeb’s milestone is expected to inspire further participation of indigenous companies in boosting national energy output and supporting economic growth.
