President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to sign the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill 2025 into law this week, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. The bill, which aims to strengthen the country’s ICT infrastructure and promote e-governance, has been described as a crucial driver of Nigeria’s journey toward a $1 trillion economy.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, made the disclosure during a public hearing jointly convened by the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on ICT and Cybersecurity. He emphasized that the bill’s provisions will lay the foundation for sustainable innovation, improved digital literacy, and inclusive economic growth across sectors.

According to Tijani, the President’s assent will not only modernize Nigeria’s governance structure but also position the country as a continental leader in digital transformation. “This bill is being awaited by President Bola Tinubu for assent this week, being one of the catalysts for the actualization of the projected $1 trillion economy,” he said.

The legislation is expected to streamline regulatory frameworks, encourage foreign and local investments in the tech ecosystem, and promote data protection and cybersecurity. Stakeholders say the bill’s implementation could create new opportunities for startups, small businesses, and digital service providers nationwide.

Dr. Tijani added that this will be the first legislation of its kind in Africa, underlining Nigeria’s leadership role in shaping the digital future of the continent. With the signing expected within days, the country is on track to unlock a new era of innovation, transparency, and digital inclusion under President Tinubu’s administration.
