Zoom CEO Eric Yuan has shared a bold vision for the future of work, suggesting that artificial intelligence could help shorten the traditional workweek. Speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Monday, Yuan highlighted Zoom’s integration of AI, including a “digital twin” feature that allows an AI avatar to represent a user in meetings. This technology, he said, has the potential to redefine how people communicate and collaborate in business.
Yuan first demonstrated his AI avatar during an earnings call with investors earlier this year, showing how the system could handle conversations and make communication more efficient. “It pushes the boundaries of communication,” he noted, illustrating that AI is no longer just a futuristic concept but an immediate tool that can support daily work.
At Disrupt, the CEO emphasized that AI is at the center of Zoom’s strategy. When asked about his investment focus, he simply stated, “AI, AI, and AI.” Zoom has dedicated multi-hour strategy sessions to exploring AI’s potential, reflecting the company’s belief that intelligent assistants can significantly transform workflows and productivity.
Yuan also envisioned broader use cases for AI companions beyond video meetings. For instance, he suggested that two executives negotiating a contract could first let their digital twins collaborate on the deal before they meet, saving time and effort. AI could also help manage emails, prioritize important messages, and streamline tasks across Zoom’s suite of products, including collaborative docs and online whiteboards.
Looking ahead, Yuan predicts that AI could drastically reduce the number of days people need to work each week. “By doing that, we do not need to work five days a week anymore… Five years out, three days or four days [a week]. That’s a goal,” he said. His vision positions AI as a central driver not only for productivity but also for reshaping the modern workweek.
