Nigeria and Denmark have taken a significant step toward deeper technological collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on digitalisation, innovation, and technology development. The agreement aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities for both countries in the fast-evolving digital economy.

The MoU was officially signed at the Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum, bringing together key leaders from both nations. Representing Nigeria, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, joined Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment, Lina Gandlose Hansen, to formalize the partnership. The ceremony marked a commitment to strengthen digital public infrastructure, expand connectivity, and foster talent development.

Speaking at the event, Hansen highlighted that the agreement stems directly from Tijani’s visit to Copenhagen in August, where he inaugurated the Nordic–Africa Summit during Denmark’s flagship innovation festival. Hansen described the visit as a catalyst that sparked “mutual interest and dialogue” between the two nations, quickly translating into tangible collaboration.

Dr. Tijani, on his part, expressed optimism about the partnership, describing the signing as “the beginning of many, many things to happen.” He emphasized that the MoU lays the groundwork for future initiatives that could transform how both countries approach digital innovation, technology transfer, and knowledge sharing in key sectors.

Analysts see the MoU as a strategic move for Nigeria, as it seeks to modernize its digital landscape and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and tech talent. For Denmark, the agreement represents an avenue to deepen trade and investment ties in Africa, particularly in technology-driven sectors. Both governments are expected to follow up with concrete projects aimed at improving digital infrastructure and supporting innovation ecosystems.
