Africa must be fully represented in global conversations shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI), according to Oluwaseun Dania, Managing Director of Alpha-Geek Technologies. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Meeting in New York, which launched the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, Dania emphasized that Africa’s 1.4 billion citizens and dynamic youth population cannot be sidelined from discussions that will define the digital era.

Dania argued that the ongoing AI revolution should not only be measured by economic output but also by its ability to improve lives, foster innovation, and promote inclusion. “Africa is not just an early adopter of mobile-first AI; it is poised to be a co-creator of its future,” he said. “In a world where AI is reshaping destinies, this dialogue must ensure no continent or community is left behind.”

The tech executive praised Nigeria’s National AI Strategy, launched in April 2025 by President Bola Tinubu and Communications and Digital Economy Minister Bosun Tijani, describing it as a blueprint for leveraging AI to drive economic growth, ethical innovation, and digital skills development. According to Dania, Nigeria’s proactive approach shows that African nations are ready to contribute meaningfully to shaping AI’s ethical and developmental frameworks.

He urged global stakeholders to focus on three pillars of AI governance: equitable access, ethical safeguards, and resilient digital infrastructure. Dania stressed that AI should be deployed to address critical global challenges — such as pandemics, food security, and energy efficiency — while guarding against its misuse in surveillance or weaponization.

“Africa’s voice must not be an afterthought,” he warned. “Global governance cannot be drafted in the echo chambers of Silicon Valley or Geneva boardrooms. Africa is ready to co-create, not merely comply.”
