OpenAI Launches In-Chat Apps for ChatGPT with Spotify, Coursera, and Canva: A New Era of Interactive AI Experiences

In a major leap for conversational AI, OpenAI has unveiled a new generation of in-chat applications integrated directly into ChatGPT, allowing users to interact with third-party services like Spotify, Coursera, Canva, Booking.com, and Zillow without leaving the chat. The feature, announced on Monday via OpenAI’s official blog, transforms ChatGPT into a powerful all-in-one workspace where users can shop, learn, create, or explore through simple natural language commands.

According to OpenAI, the rollout marks a major milestone in expanding ChatGPT’s ecosystem and developer capabilities. The company introduced a new Apps SDK (Software Development Kit)—currently available in preview—that allows developers to build custom applications that seamlessly integrate into conversations. “Developers can start building today,” OpenAI said, noting that apps “respond to natural language and include interactive interfaces you can use right in the chat.”

The update makes ChatGPT more than just a chatbot—it becomes a hub for personalized digital experiences. For instance, users can type, “Spotify, make a playlist for my Friday night party,” or ask Coursera to recommend a course on financial literacy. If a user discusses buying a new home, ChatGPT can automatically suggest Zillow to display live listings on an interactive map within the chat window. OpenAI described the new feature as “a blend of familiar interactive tools—like maps, playlists, and presentations—with natural conversation.”

For now, the in-chat apps are available to all logged-in ChatGPT users outside the European Union across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. OpenAI confirmed that its pilot partners’ services—Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Booking.com, and Zillow—are accessible in supported English-speaking markets. The company said more app partners will join before the end of the year and promised an eventual rollout for EU users. Developers can already begin creating and testing their apps through the preview SDK built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

OpenAI emphasized that this new capability marks the beginning of a new era for interactive AI, where chat and applications merge seamlessly. Users can start a project outline and ask Canva to turn it into a slide deck or take a Coursera course while asking ChatGPT for instant explanations. “The magic of this new generation of apps,” OpenAI stated, “is how they appear naturally when they’re most useful.” As the developer community expands, ChatGPT’s in-chat apps could redefine how users work, learn, and play, all within a single AI conversation.
