The Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) has reinforced its dedication to developing industry-ready skills to strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector amid global shifts in oil and gas. Speaking at the Human Capacity Development (HCD) Awards held at the MUSON Centre in Lagos, OGTAN President Chris Osarumwense emphasized that nurturing talent remains the backbone of the nation’s energy future.
“The awardees represent the highest standards of performance, leadership, and contribution to workforce development,” Osarumwense said, noting that the annual HCD Awards celebrate excellence, commitment, and impact in human capacity development within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The awards honored 11 trainers, policymakers, and corporate institutions across 10 categories for their outstanding contributions.
Among the winners, the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) received the Excellence in Oil and Gas Training Award, while Nigeria LNG Limited was recognized as Best Corporate Training Partner. TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria Limited claimed the Young Professional Development Award, and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) received the HCD Advancement Award. Other notable awardees included Aradel Holding Plc, First E&P Development Company, Pana Academy, Oilserv Limited, and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
Individual awards also highlighted exceptional leaders in the sector. Mazi Sam Azoka Onyechi (KSC) was named the OGTAN HCD Icon 2025, Mrs. Funmi Ogbue received the Women in Energy Leadership Award, and Dr. Ernest Nwapa was honored for Lifetime Achievement in Capacity Building. Osarumwense noted that OGTAN, with over 400 member companies, has delivered thousands of courses and certifications aimed at equipping professionals with the skills needed to maintain a competitive and innovative energy sector.
Mazi Sam Azoka Onyechi, Chairman of OGTAN’s Board of Trustees, highlighted the association’s growing influence in Nigeria’s human capacity development landscape. “OGTAN is now a certified awarding body under the Nigerian Board for Technical Education, developing national occupational standards, and ensuring skills domiciliation in the oil and gas industry,” he said. With a focus on standardization, digitalization, certification, and accreditation, OGTAN aims to become a regionally recognized brand for human capacity development across Africa.
