OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has seen a major revenue surge in 2025, reaching an estimated $12 billion in annualized revenue, according to a report by The Information. This figure, not yet confirmed by OpenAI or Reuters, marks a doubling of the company’s income in just the first seven months of the year. The spike reflects a strong upward trend in user adoption and commercial interest.

The report claims that OpenAI is now bringing in approximately $1 billion monthly. A major contributor to this growth is its ChatGPT platform, which now boasts around 700 million weekly active users spanning both consumer and enterprise markets. The company’s widespread appeal and deep integration in business workflows are fueling its rapid monetization.

Despite its earnings momentum, OpenAI is reportedly projecting a steep increase in operational costs. The company’s estimated cash burn is expected to hit $8 billion in 2025, an increase from previous forecasts. This rise in expenses suggests heavy ongoing investment in infrastructure, research, and product development.

To support this aggressive scaling, OpenAI is in the process of securing the second half of a massive $30 billion funding round. Major shareholders including Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management are reportedly contributing hundreds of millions of dollars, signaling strong institutional confidence in the company’s long-term value.

Additionally, Japanese investment giant SoftBank remains a key backer, with its total investment in OpenAI reaching $32 billion since autumn 2024. As OpenAI continues to expand its offerings and partnerships—especially with strategic ally Microsoft—it remains a dominant force in the AI industry, shaping the next generation of computing and enterprise tools.
