Dangote Refinery has further reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N840 to N820 per litre. This adjustment, announced on July 9, 2025, marks the second downward price revision in just one week. The latest price drop is effective immediately and is part of the company’s strategy to ensure affordability and stability in the fuel market.

The recent reduction comes after the refinery had previously lowered the price from N880 to N840 per litre, responding to fluctuations in global oil prices influenced by geopolitical tensions. Last week’s price drop was attributed to a 12-day crisis in the Middle East that caused global crude oil prices to surge, affecting local petroleum product pricing.

According to a statement by Dangote Group’s spokesperson, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, the refinery is committed to providing high-quality petroleum products at competitive prices. The move, he said, reflects Dangote Refinery’s responsiveness to both international market dynamics and local economic realities, with a focus on easing the burden on consumers.

The continuous reduction in fuel prices has encouraged more independent marketers to partner with the refinery. A growing number of fuel distributors across Nigeria have begun retailing Dangote’s refined petroleum products, benefiting from consistent supply and improved pricing.

Dangote Refinery’s latest action signals a stabilising trend in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector and is expected to positively impact transportation costs and inflation. The public and stakeholders are watching closely as the refinery continues to shape the country’s energy landscape with strategic pricing and reliable distribution.
