The CEO of Mpontu Technologies, Stephane Nwolley, has urged the Ghanaian government to prioritize strategic investment in artificial intelligence (AI) as a core driver of the nation’s digital transformation. Speaking during the #CitiBusinessFestival 2025 On-Air Series, he highlighted the potential of AI to revolutionize critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, finance, and education.

Nwolley warned that without deliberate action, Ghana risks falling behind in the global AI race. He stressed the importance of investing in AI infrastructure, research, data systems, and talent development. These investments, he noted, are key to unlocking innovation and fostering economic growth within the country’s digital ecosystem.

Citing international examples, Nwolley pointed to the United States, China, and Middle Eastern nations as models where governments have taken strong political steps and formed collaborative frameworks to support AI advancement. He emphasized that similar high-level commitment is needed in Ghana, starting with identifying local players and understanding their needs.

At Mpontu Technologies, early investments have already been made in AI capabilities, but Nwolley explained that meaningful government support would accelerate progress. He called for public-private partnerships, policy direction, and targeted funding, especially in areas like infrastructure, AI model development, and workforce training.

The call to action was made during the 2025 edition of the Citi Business Festival, organized by Citi FM and Channel One TV, with support from Absa Bank, MTN Ghana, and Zonda Tech Ghana Ltd. Nwolley’s message serves as a rallying cry for stakeholders to act now and position Ghana as a competitive leader in Africa’s AI revolution.
