On April 10, 2025, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will officially inaugurate the LGS2 Data Centre, a state-of-the-art facility developed by Rack Centre. The Governor confirmed his attendance during a recent meeting with the leadership team of Rack Centre, led by CEO Lars Johannisson, at Lagos House Marina. Sanwo-Olu expressed enthusiasm about the new Tier III data centre, highlighting its role in positioning Lagos as a key player in the tech industry across West Africa.

Rack Centre’s CEO, Lars Johannisson, emphasized that the LGS2 Data Centre represents a significant advancement in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. The facility, offering 12MW IT load capacity, is expected to set new standards for data centres in the country. Johannisson underscored that the centre would enhance scalability, efficiency, and sustainability for businesses navigating the digital age, as well as doubling Nigeria’s data centre capacity.

The LGS2 Data Centre is designed with advanced technology to support cloud computing, AI solutions, digital content management, and more, meeting the sophisticated needs of modern businesses. It features an energy-efficient Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35, the lowest in West Africa, alongside an innovative sustainable energy generation mix. With 3,240 square meters of white space and six data halls, the facility is poised to cater to the growing demands of the digital economy.

Notably, the LGS2 Data Centre is the first IFC Edge-certified green data centre in the EMEA region, highlighting its commitment to both technical excellence and environmental sustainability. By ensuring data generated, stored, and processed in Nigeria stays within national jurisdiction, the centre strengthens Nigeria’s data sovereignty and contributes to the nation’s broader goals of digital transformation and economic growth.
