The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has advocated for diversifying Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Ghana beyond the country’s traditionally strong sectors like gold and oil. Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Mr. Madjie emphasized the need to expand investment into a broader range of industries to ensure sustainable economic growth.

While acknowledging that Ghana’s natural resources, such as gold and oil, continue to attract foreign investors, he stressed that these industries alone should not define the nation’s investment strategy. Mr. Madjie highlighted that despite global uncertainties, these resources will always have inherent value, but Ghana must look beyond them for long-term development.

To diversify FDI, Mr. Madjie suggested that the government should identify and promote investment opportunities across all districts in the country. He proposed creating a detailed investment map that outlines regional opportunities, allowing both local businesses and foreign investors to explore untapped potential in various regions.

Mr. Madjie also pointed out that such a strategy would not only assist local entrepreneurs but also enhance Ghana’s ability to market itself abroad. A comprehensive investment blueprint could be used by Ghanaian missions overseas and even the President to promote the country as an attractive destination for international investors.
