CBN Reaffirms Commitment to Empower Nigerian Youth Through Credit Policies and Capacity Building

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering Nigerian youth by enhancing credit policies and capacity-building programs. During the Youth Action Event in Abuja, CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, represented by Deputy Governor Muhammad Abdullahi, emphasized the need for policies that equip young Nigerians with financial tools to succeed in emerging sectors such as the green economy and digital transformation. He stressed that youth are not only future leaders but essential contributors to shaping current economic policies and innovations.

Cardoso highlighted that financial inclusion remains a core mission of the CBN, aiming to bridge financial access gaps, especially for young people and underserved communities. He pointed out that the bank will continue implementing initiatives like youth-friendly credit policies to enable young Nigerians to thrive as entrepreneurs and innovators. These efforts are part of a broader vision to drive sustainable economic development by providing financial services tailored to the needs of youth.

The CBN Governor also emphasized the importance of collaboration, revealing plans to strengthen partnerships with civil society, international organizations, and the private sector to create an enabling environment for youth empowerment. He called the Youth Action Event not just a forum for discussion but a call to action, urging participants to turn ideas into tangible outcomes and set measurable targets for youth-focused initiatives.

Vice President of the Joint Consultative Council of the CBN, Jamilu Ado, echoed Cardoso’s sentiments, describing the event as a pivotal step in advancing Nigeria’s goals under the Pact for the Future. Ado emphasized the need for greater participation from Nigerian youth and the importance of showcasing their leadership skills globally. He also reflected on the bank’s participation in the UN’s Pact for the Future summit, marking a historic milestone in the commitment to fostering an empowered workforce.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also affirmed the government’s commitment to improving youth welfare, aligning with the CBN’s objectives to support the country’s youth in their personal and professional growth, thus contributing to the overall economic transformation of Nigeria.
