The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged telecom operators and regulators to enhance service quality, especially as concerns grow over recent tariff increases. LCCI Director-General, Dr. Chinyere Almona, acknowledged the economic pressures on telecom companies but emphasized the need to balance financial sustainability with consumer affordability. She noted that rising costs should not compromise service quality or further burden lower-income consumers.
Almona stressed the importance of investing in digital infrastructure to support Nigeria’s economic growth and the government’s goal of a one-trillion-dollar economy. She highlighted that robust telecom networks are essential for fostering innovation and digital transformation across all sectors. LCCI also advocated automating regulatory processes to improve business efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The chamber called for increased government funding in the ICT sector, recognizing its role in post-pandemic recovery and economic expansion. Almona urged continuous dialogue between stakeholders to address challenges in the telecom industry, ensuring a fair outcome for operators, regulators, and consumers. LCCI emphasized that strengthening the telecom sector is key to unlocking Nigeria’s digital economy and fostering long-term economic development.
