Wini Group has announced the establishment of Wini University, Nigeria’s first Artificial Intelligence-focused institution, in Epe, Lagos. The university aims to position Nigeria as a global AI powerhouse by equipping youths with cutting-edge technological skills. Inspired by Qatar’s AI University, the initiative has been in development since 2016 and has garnered interest from the National Universities Commission (NUC). Wini University is set to become a catalyst for Africa’s first AI-driven Silicon Valley, fostering innovation in AI, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies.

The university seeks to create a new generation of African AI innovators rather than passive participants in the global AI market. Its curriculum will focus on advanced technologies such as blockchain, cloud computing, machine learning, and generative AI. The project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of attracting global investors and transforming Nigeria into a trillion-dollar economy, as well as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s mission to establish Lagos as Africa’s technology hub. The initiative has gained the support of Epe’s traditional rulers, who have donated land for the university’s permanent site.

Beyond academia, Wini University is expected to boost Epe’s GDP by shifting its economy from agriculture to a thriving digital sector. It aims to develop AI-driven solutions in robotics, drones, and climate change technologies for both local and global markets. The university will generate employment, nurture tech entrepreneurs, and attract foreign investments, solidifying Lagos’ reputation as the “Silicon Valley of Africa.
