Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has called for innovative financing models to drive sustainable development in Africa’s maritime sector. At the 7th Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) conference in Tanzania, he emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation, and collaboration to enhance maritime safety, security, and environmental sustainability. Mobereola highlighted the conference as a critical platform to address shared challenges, including sustainable energy, regional security, and economic growth.

He stressed the importance of international support in achieving these goals, urging regional and global partners to back Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure development and digital transformation efforts. Key priorities at the conference include enhancing maritime safety, combating piracy, and strengthening adherence to frameworks such as the Djibouti and Yaoundé Codes of Conduct. These measures aim to solidify Nigeria’s role in improving security across West Africa’s waters.

The AAMA, established to facilitate collaborative action among African maritime administrations, has long sought to advance the continent’s maritime agenda. Since hosting the 3rd AAMA conference in 2017, Nigeria has been instrumental in developing strategies aligned with the African Maritime Transport Charter. The organization continues to promote cooperation across regional, continental, and international levels to harmonize policies critical to the sector’s sustainable growth.
