Kayode Daniels, the Head of Commercial at APM Terminals Apapa, clarified that cargo delays at Nigerian ports are primarily caused by poor policy enforcement, not terminal operators. During a stakeholders’ meeting, Daniels emphasized that the real issue lies in the lack of effective enforcement, particularly around the truck electronic call-up system, ‘Eto,’ which is managed by Truck Transit Park Ltd.
He explained that delays often occur when truckers park on access roads to complete multiple transactions, like waiting for additional paperwork. Daniels highlighted that educating customers on the ‘Eto’ system would improve efficiency and reduce complaints, helping to alleviate congestion on critical access roads.
Irabor Akonoman, Head of Operations at Truck Transit Parks, urged truck operators to avoid soliciting customers on the port access roads to reduce congestion. Akonoman advised importers and exporters to track truck movements through the TTP website, ensuring a smoother flow of trucks into the terminal and reducing delays.
