Nigeria Achieves Milestone Shipment to Kenya Under AfCFTA

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully facilitated the first shipment from Nigeria to Kenya under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA). This milestone was marked by a shipment from Lucky Fibres, a subsidiary of the Tolaram Group, destined for the port of Mombasa, showcasing the collaborative efforts of the AfCFTA framework.

During a recent visit to the Apapa Area Command, Olusegun Olutayo, Senior Trade Expert and Lead of Trade Enablement at the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, highlighted the importance of this shipment in promoting intra-African trade. He noted that the process involved coordination with the AfCFTA Secretariat in Ghana and the implementation committee in Kenya, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration intended by the agreement.

Olutayo commended the NCS for its proactive role as the Designated Competent Authority (DCA) under AfCFTA, emphasizing their commitment to facilitating trade. He stated that the customs service has been instrumental in addressing challenges and ensuring smooth operations, which is vital for enhancing trade across the continent.
