A consortium of seven oil companies, including Eterna Plc and Techno Oil, has commissioned the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2) at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, to supply Jet A1 fuel to local and international airlines. Spanning 46,000 square meters with a 15-million-litre storage capacity, the facility is the largest airside jet fuel depot in Nigeria. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo expressed that JUHI-2 will significantly reduce flight delays and cancellations, boosting the aviation industry’s efficiency while attracting further private investments.
Patience Dappa, Chairman of JUHI-2 Limited, highlighted the project’s importance to the aviation sector, emphasizing the facility’s operational excellence, safety, and reliability. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, JUHI-2 has state-of-the-art filtration systems, a modern laboratory, and the capacity to load multiple fuel bowsers simultaneously. The facility is designed to support airlines, cargo carriers, and private jets, enhancing the overall infrastructure at Lagos Airport and contributing to regional economic growth through job creation and improved aviation services.
Eterna Plc CEO, Abiola Lawal, described JUHI-2 as a strategic investment for Nigeria’s future aviation needs. Capable of delivering 150 million litres of fuel monthly, which equals 20% of the nation’s annual sales volume, the facility is expected to enhance operational efficiency in fuel handling. The consortium’s collaboration sets a new benchmark for aviation fuel services in Nigeria, supporting domestic and international air traffic while adhering to international safety and quality standards.
