The Nigerian government has received $600,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help people affected by floods and to improve health and farming.
This announcement was made when Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, met with leaders of the foundation in New York. The money will help with flood relief in Borno State and support changes in the health and farming sectors.
In addition to the flood relief, the foundation also promised $5 million to help Nigerian farmers grow cassava, which can be a big boost to the country’s economy. The government is working hard to improve food production, especially maize, and is focused on solving important problems like malnutrition and health issues such as polio.
