The Nigerian government is working hard to make sure its maritime agencies follow global standards, especially when it comes to safety.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, emphasized that safety is key to improving Nigeria’s maritime sector and making it more business-friendly.

He also said President Bola Tinubu’s administration wants the Blue Economy to contribute more to Nigeria’s economy.

A key project, called the Deep Blue Project, has improved security in Nigeria’s waterways, leading to no cases of piracy in the last two years.

The government is also working to make Nigerian ports more modern and competitive with ports around the world.

New tugboats were added to help move ships more efficiently at the Dangote Refinery and Lekki Deep Seaport.

These efforts will make Nigeria a stronger maritime nation and encourage more investment. Oyetola assured that the new transportation rules will improve water travel and reduce accidents, making it safer for everyone.

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate World Maritime Day 2024, officials are focusing on keeping waters safe for businesses and travelers.

Leaders in the industry, like Dr. Dayo Mobereola from NIMASA, stressed that safety is a top priority to protect lives, ships, and investments. The event will bring together experts to discuss how to continue improving Nigeria’s maritime sector.
