The Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) has clarified that Dangote Group’s decision to abandon a proposed 1,200km subsea gas pipeline was a business choice, not due to government policies, as stated by the company’s VP of Oil and Gas.

The Ministry emphasized that the decision was made long before President Tinubu’s administration took office.

The Ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to encouraging investment in Nigeria’s gas value chain, citing policies like the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and recent gas pricing and tariff regulations.

These policies aim to boost private sector investment in gas infrastructure, and several projects have already been launched under Tinubu’s government.

During a recent webinar, Dangote Group had attributed the project’s abandonment to past government policies, which restricted companies from operating across multiple sectors and mandated government ownership of gas pipelines.

However, the Ministry clarified that current regulations encourage such investments.
