Aviation workers have called off their planned protest against the Federal Government’s 50% revenue collection from aviation agencies, which was scheduled for Wednesday.
The strike was halted after a government directive aimed at easing tensions within the sector.
Nnadi Hector, Secretary of the Joint Aviation Trade Unions Forum, confirmed that the decision followed a presidential intervention reducing the revenue deduction to 20%.
Hector highlighted that the recent protests by aviation unions were peaceful and intended to bring attention to the challenges facing the industry.
He expressed optimism about the reduction in revenue deductions, seeing it as a positive development for the sector.
The planned strike was initially set to begin on August 21, 2024, after aviation workers announced the protest in response to the government’s continued 50% revenue deduction.
The unions had warned that the deductions were threatening the stability of key aviation agencies.
