The Federal Government is planning to spend $7.2 billion to complete two deep seaports in Ibom and Badagry.
The first phase of the Ibom Deep Seaport will cost $2.016 billion and was approved in December 2020.
This project aims to create about 300,000 jobs in Akwa Ibom.
The Badagry Deep Seaport, estimated at $2.59 billion, is set to begin construction in June 2022.
This project is expected to boost trade and investment opportunities in the area and transform the economy of Lagos State and West Africa.
It will also prioritize employment and capacity building for the local communities.
However, some stakeholders express concerns about the feasibility and need for multiple deep seaports in the country.
They emphasize the importance of smart ports, integrated logistics, and proper transport policies to avoid redundancy and ensure successful implementation of these projects.
