Nigerian Customs officers intercepted a large shipment of cannabis sativa worth an estimated N96 million during a patrol along the Bar Beach in Lagos. The 17 sacks containing 1,257 parcels of the illegal drug were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.

Acting on a tip, the Customs patrol team identified a suspicious boat and upon intercepting it, discovered the cannabis sativa weighing a total of 609kg. This seizure reflects the ongoing efforts by Customs to combat smuggling activities and maintain security on the waterways.

In a separate incident, Customs also apprehended a wooden boat carrying smuggled foreign parboiled rice during a routine patrol on the Badagry waterways. The smugglers abandoned the boat and its cargo upon encountering the patrol team. The seized rice has a duty paid value of N59.2 million.

The Customs Area Controller, Paul Bamisaiye, condemned these smuggling attempts, highlighting their violation of the Nigeria Customs Service Act. He urged the public to avoid illegal drugs and smuggling activities, emphasizing their negative impact on society. The NDLEA commended the collaboration between the agencies and pledged a thorough investigation of the seized narcotics.
