During a meeting at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, David Umahi, the Minister of Works, announced that the Nigerian government has paid N2.75 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. This infrastructure project spans 700 kilometers and is the largest in the country. The compensation covers properties within 0 to 3 kilometers of the highway’s route that were demolished to make way for its construction.

Umahi emphasized the importance of these decisions for the economic progress of the nation. Despite doubts from some quarters, the government remained committed to fulfilling its obligations. The minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to implementing policies that yield tangible results.

Among those to be compensated are prominent entities like Landmark Group, Kids Club, Maxtivity, and Bolaji Areyoh, whose Mami Chula Beach Lifestyle faces significant impact. Areyoh acknowledged the sacrifice but expressed confidence in the project’s potential to benefit Nigerians at large.
